South Auckland Bowlers Arrive
Tiour Of Northland Starts
Official Welcome This Morning
A party of 33 bowlers, one nonplaying member, and nine ladies
from the South Auckland Bowling Centre arrived in Whangarei last
night to commence a tour of Northland.
A reception* was held at the Whangarei Club’s greens this morning, and the party was later taken on a sightseeing trip, some of the members visiting the Portland Cement Works. The visitors were welcomed this morning by Mr. T. H. Wilson, president of the North Auckland Centre, and he expressed the hope that the visitors would have a most enjoyable stay in Northland. Mr. W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the citizens of Whangarei. He referred to the wonderful entertainment given to the Northland party, which visited the south last year, and said that it gave the people of Northland great pleasure to be able to return this hospitality. ' /
Tours Should Be Encouraged. Mr. R. H. Allan, president of the Whangarei Club, said he thought that such visits as the present tour were very desirable. and were to be encouraged as a means of drawing bowlers closer together. On behalf of the Whangarei Club he presented a badge to Mr. P. H. Rowe, leader of the party, making him! a playing member of the club. /
Mr. J. G. Barclay, M.P. for Marsden. and Mr. F. A. Jones, Mayor of Dargaville, also welcomed the visitors. Mr Rowe, President of the South Auckland’ Centre, replied on behalf of the party. He said that the conclusion
had been reached that too many tbur-
n amends were not good for the garnet ,and such interclub and intercentre meetings were desirable to foster the social side. The South Auckland'Centre was looking forward to a return visit from the Northern bowlers. Cheers were given for the visitors and the local bowlers.
Trip Down Harbour.
Tomorrow, the bowlers will be taken on a trip down the Whangarei Harbour, the Harbour Board having offered the use of a launch tor the purpose, and in the afternoon, games will be played on the Kensington greens. In the evening, matches under electric light will be- played on the Whangarei greens.
On Wednesday a visit will be paid to Waipu, and after playing there the vourists will proceed to Dargaville, via Whangarei.
On Thursday, after sightseeing at Dargaville, games will he played on the Dargaville greens, and on Friday the party will play at Paparoa- and' Maungaturoto, playing at Helensville on Friday.
It is doubtful whether the Wairua Falls will be visited on the trip to Dargaville, as little water is now flowing, following the dry spell.

Bernard, G. Pooley, G. W. Hyde, H. A. Raven, C. Cobham, G. Doleman, E. Tozer, C, Davis, B. €. Ldwry, F. Wright, D. Gunn, L. Cubis, H. Rogers, H. Worthington, W. Ayres, Walker and E. Raihbone.
This afternoon the bowler® are playing on the Whangarei greens, and, this evening will be the guests at a conversazione at the Commercial Cafe.
