MORE WATER ON GREY RIVER BAR
FLOOD REMOVES MUCH OF THE : SILT ' [Special to "Northern Advocate"} , GREYMOUTH, This Day. A rainfall of over 2 inches, for 24 hours, causing a fresh in the river, has improved the position at the Grey River bar, where soundings now show a depth of 20ft 1 inch—the beSt since the end of last month.
Even so, the three-bar-bound ships, Omana, Poolta, and Kaimal, were unable to sail because heavy seas were running. It Is expected, however, that they would get a Way today.
The gravity of the situation in the Greymouth district is shown by the fact that Messrs T. Whittle and A. McLagan, representing the United Mine Workers of New’ Zealand, waited on the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C, Webb, in Wellington, and placed the position before him. The Minister promised to refer the question to the Minister of Marine. It looks, however, as if nature has put things right
