Mr and Mrs G. H. Morrish returned to Whangarei by the late train on Saturday night.

Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P. for left Whangarei by the express this morning to be present at the opening of Parliament at Wellington on Wednesday.

Mr J. E. Allen, of Auckland, relieving teacher at Ruatangata during the past two weeks, has been replaced by the appointed schoolmistress, Mrs J. B. Lush, Dkaihau. Miss Hollins, mistress of the Ruatangata school until shortly after Christmas, had n very fine • record with proficiency examinations during the past 12 years. During this long period at various institutions, Miss Hollins has secured' passes with all candidates submitted.

The funeral of the late Mr : Malcolm McDonald took place yesterday, when a very large number of people, including representative old settlers from all parts of the district, assembled at the graveside in the Ketenikau Cemetery (Kamo), to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of one who had been held in the highest esteem during his long life in this district. There was also a large and beautiful floral offering. Prior to the funeral procession, a Lodge of Sorrow was held by the Star of the North Lodge, No. 1647, of which deceased was the oldest member. Lodge Whangarei, Lodge Parahaki, Concord Mark Lodge and the Royal Arch Chapter were also represented. Hie lodge session, with the casket containing the deceased's mortal remains occupying a central position, was of tan impressive nature. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. C. Brierly, of Hikurangi, in the absence of the Rev. W. Elliott, and at the conclusion the beautiful Masonic ritual was read by W. Bro. T. H. Wilson, the brethren, who were present in large numbers, making their customary gesture of farewell.
