Local Flood Damage Relief. Mr J, G. Barclay, M.P., has been advised by the Minister of Agriculture that those , farmers who desire Government assistance to repair flood damage may obtain the necessary forms from the local stock inspector.

Portland Bills.

In Portland, according to Mr A. E. Brown, the Whangarei Hospital Board’s collector, the people have plenty of money, but do not like paying their hospital bills. A statement to this effect was made at yesterday’s meeting of the board by Mr Brown. As a result, the board may sue some of those who owe money.

Whangarei Marksmen. Messrs J. Norris and D. E. Wilton, of Whangarei, were again successful in the rifle championship series held at Trentham yesterday. J. Norris won the B grade in the Hawke’s Bay match (10 rounds at 600 yards), with a score of 47. D. E. Wilton, with a score of 231, won 10/- in the Trentham aggregate (for highest scorers in the Canterbury, Otago, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington matches),

DX Trophies. The Whangarei branch of the New Zealand DX Club is still an active body, with a keen and enthusiastic membership meeting regularly. The VK Cup, which is awarded halfyearly, was won by R. Roy croft. The trophy goes to the member recording the greatest number of Australian amateur short-wave stations on the broadcast band after midnight. Similarly the Eastern Cup (China-Japan zone) was won by A. Robinson for the most points in this section.

Still more end-of-season specials at Henry Wilson’s; 54in White Sheeting, 1/3; 80in ditto, 1/11 yard; Coloured Towels, were 2/11, for 1/9 pair; Tea Towels, 7d each; Pillow Cases, lid pair; Smart Marocain Frocks, were 21/-, for 8/11; White Bemberg Frocks, 4/6; Silknit Bloomers, lid; Silknit Princess Slips, 3/6; and Pyjamas, 5/6.
