LINCOLN ELLSWORTH.—The re- ( search ship Discovery, with Mr Lincoln Ellsworth aboard, will reach Melbourne next Monday morning. •
GOVERNOR’S FLAG—Mr J. A. Lyons announced that henceforth the Governor-General will use the official flag approved by the late King in 1920 for use by the Governor-General of a Dominion. The flag is the same as already used by India, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.
THE WORLD TRADE.—The Continent does not follow the lead of the British wool industry, which is maintaining a high rate of consumption. Users of tops abroad are reluctant to increase commitments, in view of the difficulty of obtaining higher prices for yarn. Spinners, therefore, are buying only for ( immediate requirements.
MUSTARD GAS BLINDNESS.—A man who just lost his sight as the result of being gassed in the battle of Arras. 1917, was admitted to St. Dunstan’s home for blinded soldiers at the week-end. This is the 15th case of delayed action in blindness due to mustard gas, which has been admitted to the institution in the last two years.— 8.0. W.
BRITAIN AND EGYPT.—The “Morning Post’s” political correspondent says that detailed instructions for the conduct of negotiations between Britain and Egypt for a new party were sent to the High Commissioner, Sir Miles Lampson, after a Cabinet meeting last night. These request him to press for the adoption of a scheme of military co-operaticn, under which the number of British troops in Egypt will be substantially increased. Sir Miles is also asked to secure adequate protection for foreign interests and property and safeguards for the imperial communications, notably in the Suez Canal.
LABOUR FRONT FOR GERMANY.—lnaugurating training courses for Nazi political leaders, a Reich leader, Dr, Fraun Felder, said: “Nothing can be done by. only shouting ‘ Heil Hitler.’ We must now act in accordance with the principles of our movement by organising a Labour Front.”
OPERA STAR DEAD.— The death has occurred of Florence Smithson, the well-known London opera and musical comedy star, aged 52.
