WATER FOR RUAWAI
COMPANY SUGGESTS SCHEME [Special to "Northern Afowcate.”] DARGAVILLE, This Day.
Convened by the Otamatea County Council, a local body conference, which met in Dargaville yesterday, considered a proposal for the provision by private enterprise of a water supply scheme for- the Ruawai dairying area.
A motion was carried approving of the granting by the Government of a charter to carry out water reticulation in the district, and that the members should refer the question to their respective bodies for consideration.
The scheme suggested by the Hume Pipe Company Ltd., was that the fompany do the work, under charter, and without financial guarantee from the local bodies. In the charter provision would be made to enable the local bodies at any time, to purchase jointly, the whole of the undertaking. The price would depend on the cost of the scheme, and the company would agree to the imposition of a reasonable limit to profits. An ample supply of water with allowance for future expansion, would be provided, under the scheme. The price of water for consumption was not disclosed in open meeting, but members seemed satisfied with the suggested figure.
