RECEPTION TO MR COATES

At a public meeting held in the Town Hall supper room on Wednesday evening, unanimous approval was ; given to the decision to accord the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs Coates a public reception, in acknowledgment of the many years of faithful Parliamentary service rendered to New Zealand by Mr Coates. Mr H. W. Crawford, who occupied the chair, stated that Mr Coates had given 25 years of the best of his life to the service of the State, and throughout that time he had been ably and faithfully supported by Mrs Coated. The three northern electorates were combining in the acknowledgment, and in making the function a worthy one. Approval and practical support was coming in from all parts of the North. The reception would take the form of a garden party picnic in Selwyn Park, Dargaville at 10 o’clock on Monday, March 2. Ladies were being invited to bring baskets and the Dargaville committee had offered to provide ample quantities of boiling water for the large number who will be present. A Whangarei committee, consisting of Messrs. H. C. Rishworth, D. J. Finlayson, Colonel J. N. McCarroll, Messrs. L. W. Nelson, T. Mitchell, J. A. S. Mackay and H. W. Crawford was set up to assist in the arrangements. It was decided to publicly invite through the Press all who wished to be associated with the movement to communicate with any member of the committee.
