RAIL POSITION IMPROVES
TOWAI NOW TERMINAL POINT.
EXPRESSES RUNNING LATE,
Following the flood havoc to the permanent way, rail services in
Northland are being improved daily. Yesterday the express which ran from Whakapara to Auckland, arrived with a small margin of time to spare to connect with the Limited. The train from Auckland arrived at Whangarei at 4.20, two hours late, and went on to Whakapara. Further restoration of the line on the northern section permitted the extension of the terminal point today to Towai, where service cars for the North made a connection for both inward and outward expresses. Passengers for Opua and Russell are leaving the service cars at Kawakawa, and resuming their journey by train to Opua, that section of line having been opened. No traffic except work trains is being carried on the Otiria-Kaikohe branch line.
The express from the south was delayed again today, and at 3 o’clock this afternoon was expected to arrive at approximately 3.45 p.m.
