INTEREST IN SECTIONAL PLAY

The Jubilee tourney of the Whangarei Bowling Club continued in glorious weather yesterday. The greens were again in tip-top order. Great interest centred in the match between McAlister and Delamore yesterday. The Mt. Eden rink played a drawing game and the others were more aggressive. After a strong game. McAlister came du't on top to lead at the end of the sixth round. -a Today he is playing Allan to determine the winner of the section. Results are: — Section A. Fifth Round.-jßeynolds 18, Davey 14; McNay 20, Graham 19; McLeod 35, Lamb 11; Courtney 28, Piggott 18. Sixth round.—Reynolds 17, McNay 12; Graham 19, Davey 13; McLeod 26, Courtney 13; Lamb 23, Pigfott 15. Seventh Round.—McNay 31 Lamb 6; Piggott ,24, McLeod 13; Davey 26, Courtney 19; Graham 25, Reynolds 15. McNay and Graham, each with five wins, go forward into post section play. Section B. Fifth round. —Vodanovich 19, Wilkinson 12; Stewart 21, Everett 19; Miller 30, Cox 19; Haigh 16, Staple 14.

Orr won this section outright to go forward. The draw for post-section play resulted as follows:—Delamore meets McNay, Everett v. Graham, Orr v. Vodanovich, Allan v. McAlister. The games will be conducted under the one-life system, which means that four rinks will remain in after the first round, two after round two, and then the final, which will be played tomorrow. BOWLERS' SMOKE CONCERT . A good crowd of representatives of* all the visiting and local bowlers gathered in the Whangarei clubhouse for the smoke concert last night. Mr R. H. Allan, president of the Whangarei club, presided. Among the toasts honoured were:— "The Visitors," proposed by Mr Allan—reply, Mr A. R. Coltman (a past president of the Dominion Bowling Association and an ex-president of the Carlton Bowling Club); "Southern Bowlers," Mr J. B. Reynolds—Mr H. Norcross; "The President," Mr Coltman—reply, Mr Allan. Items were given by the male quartette (Messrs Wilding, Larking, Gribble and Dennis), songs by Mr Mclvor, Mr K. Ward and Mr Cowiq (president of the Kaitaia club). The accompanist was Mr Ward. Mr S. Holdsworth also recited.
