SHORTAGE OF BEEF AT TODAY’S SALE [Special to "North,ern Advocate.”} AUCKLAND, This Day. There was again a short yarding of ox beef at Westfield stock sales today, and, as a consequence, cattle continued in keen demand. The yarding including some inferior quality lines, but, taken generally, the standard was well up to recent level. Brisk bidding characterised the sale, and steers were dearer than they have been for some time. A line of steers sold from £lO 10/ to £l4 17/6. Cow and heifer beef came forward in average numbers, and under steady competition being, if anything, a shade better than last week.
Calf pens were well filled and, selling under ready demand, calves were very firm at last week’s rate. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., reports that it had a small entry of beef, which met with a ready market, with values firm at late quotations. Extra choice ox sold at 32/ per 1001 b; choice and prime, 29/ to 31/; secondary and plain, 25/ to 28/; prime young ' cow and heifer beef, 27/ to 31/; secondary, 23/ to 26/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l3 to £l3 15/; heavy, £l2 to £l2 17/6; lighter, £lO 10/ to £ll 17/6; light, £9 to £lO 7/6; small and unfinished, £7 10/ to £8 17/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 to £7 10/; heavy, £6 to £6 17/6; lighter, £5 to £5 17/; light, £3 10/ to £4 15/; others, £2 to £3 7/6. ,
