DR. CUNNINGHAM TO STAY
PLANT RESEARCH STATION [ per Press Association. — Copyright.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Dr. G. H. Cunningham, who recently resigned his position as officer in charge of the Plant Research Station at Palmerston North, will continue his services at the station, said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister-in-Charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, yesterday. Mr. Sullivan said that the Government had been impressed with the increasing need for attention to scientific research into the problems of protection of plants from disease, and, in addition, to improvements to the facilities at the Plant Research Station at Palmerston, arrangements had been made for the continuance of Dr. Cunningham’s services. This news, Mr. Sullivan said, would no doubt be welcomed by the various agricultural and fruit interests, which had made representation to the Government on the subject. Some months ago Dr. Cunningham had intimated his desire to resign from the Government service, with a view to proceeding with work overseas, but, because of the improved facilities, he had now signified a desire to continue with the Department in research in plant diseases, and arrangements had been made by the Public Service Commissioner accordingly.
