DR. EARLE PAGE’S MISSION
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND DENIED (Received 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A Brisbane message says the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Earle Page, stated that he did not intend to visit New Zealand' and Canada for trade discussions on his way to the world sugar conference. He proposes to travel direct to Europe, via Suez. Wheth J er he would visit Canada and New Zealand on his way back has still to be discussed.
A Hobart report says that the Prime Minister, Mr Lyons, denied the recent suggestion that Dr. Page would call at New Zealand to discuss a plan whereby Australian citrus fruits might be admitted to the Dominion, on condition that New Zealand. potatoes were allowed in Australia.
Mr Lyons added that it was not to be understood that trade negotiations with New Zealand had fallen through. When negotiations on the potato embargo were resumed, the Commonwealth, in accordance with the promise made, would refer the discussion to the Federal Potato Council in the first place.
