REVENUE HIGHER
EARNINGS ON THE RAILWAYS INCREASE OF £16,488 SHOWN FOR MONTHLY PERIOD ENDED DECEMBER 7. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”} WELLINGTON, This Day. An abstract of the railway accounts for the four-weekly period ended December 7, which appeared in last night’s Gazette, shows that a working profit of £77,231 was made in that period. This represents an increase of £16,488, compared with the corresponding period last year, when the working profit was £60,743, The gross receipts for the four weeks were £535,652, an increase of £44,064, while expenses were £458,421, an increase of £27,576. Earnings by the North Island railways. amounted to £294,671, an increase of £11,154, and expenses to £248,505,1 an increase of £14,276. There was a working profit of £46, 166, compared with £49,288 last year. Receipts from the South Island railways were £184,616, an increase of £2954, and expenses were £177,751, an increase of £11,479. A profit of £6865 was shown, against £15,390 last year. Miscellaneous revenue amounted to £56,365, and expenses to £32,165, leaving a net revenue of £24,200, compared with a deficit of £3935 last year.
For the period, April 1 to December 7, the net revenue was £431,382, compared with £409,159. The gross revenue was £4,429,424, an increase of £218,584. The expenditure was £3,998,042, an increase of £190,361. The increase of £22,223 net revenue has been achieved after 7J per cent increase in salaries and wages has been met.
