MINERS AND WAGES

OWNERS AND MEN TO CONFER [British Official Wireless .l (Received 10 a.m.) RUGBY, January 6. The meeting of the national executive of the Mineowners’ Federation, which was adjourned before Christmas until today, has been further adjourned until after Wednesday’s conference between the miners and representatives of the colliery owners. The latter have undertaken to give detailed particulars at that conference of the offer previously communicated to the men’s representatives in general terms, in response to the miners’ claim for an advance in wages. The owners have been in negotiation with various categories of large scale consumers, whose supplies are governed by long term contracts, with a view to obtaining higher prices for coal to enable them to advance wages. The result of these negotiations, and the advances which they will render possible, will be announced to the union representatives at Wednesday’s meeting.
