WIDESPREAD FRENCH FLOODS
HEAVY DAMAGE REPORTED [United Press Assoclation.-By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright.] (Received 2 p.m.) PARIS, January 7. Widespread floods in the south and south-west of France have wrought untold damage. Thirty streets in Nantes are under water, and boats are the only means of transport, pending raised gangways which workmen are hurriedly constructing. All factories near the Loire River have been closed.
A little girl was drowned. A large part of Angouleme, on the river Gharent, is under water. Motor
boats are carrying' supplies from Bordeaux for people isolated on farms near Le Reole. The Rhone is rising at Avignon where the inhabitants have been using boats for many days. There is great distress in the Douches du Rhone and Vaucluse areas, where thousands of peasants have been deprived , of their livelihobd. The church at Tarascon has been isolated, and it is feared that water has invaded the tomb of St. Martha, for which the church is famous.
