RAILWAY TO GISBORNE

EAST COAST LINE WORK TO GO AHEAD GOVERNMENT WILL ACT. [Special to ”Northern Advocate ”1 HASTINGS, This Day. , The Speaker-elect of the House of Representatives, Mr W. E. Barnard, gave an assurance yesterday that the East Coast railway would be completed by the new Government. Although there was , a c.ertain technical difficulty in that the line could not be resumed without the approval of the Railways Board, the necessary steps will be taken in order to enable the Government to carry out its policy.

An indication that the Government intends to carry out the work as soon as possible can be gathered from the fact that the Public Works Department at Napier has already been instructed that no further material connected with the East Coast line is to be disposed of.
