MASONIC GRAND LODGE

ANNUAL COMMUNICATION. A LARGE GATHERING. - CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ■ The annual communication of the’ Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand opened yesterday morning. The greater number of the 306 lodges oi the National Constitution now in the Dominion were represented either by their W.M.’s or by delegates. Colonel J. J. Esson, who has been Grand Master for the past 12 months, presided, and was supported by a strong assemblage of Past "Grand Masters. After respect had been shown /to who was Grand Master of New Zeathe memory of the late Earl Jellicoe, land in 1923 anai 1924, and sympathy had been extended to his widow and family, elective officers for the coming 12 months were chosen under the scheme of distribution submitted by the Board of General Purposes. | Colonel Essoq was re-elected Grand Master.

As the Grand Secretary’s office will remain in Wellington for another 12 months, the chief executive officers are from that district. Thus V. Wor. Bro. H. G. Teague remains president of the Board of General Purposes, V. Wor. Bro. C. N. Cathie is president of the Board of Benevolence, V. Wor. Bro. R. W. McVilly is Grand Treasurer, and V. Wor. Bro. A. T. Duncan Grand Registrar. A Grand Director of Ceremonies was elected for each of the four largest districts —J. S. Martin for Wellington, V. Wor. Bro. W. T. Franks for Canterbury, V. Wor. Bro. W. W. Wright for Auckland, which also has an Assistant Grand Director in Wor. Bro. F. G. Alpe, and V. Wor. Bro. G. Waldie for Otago. Each of the other districts was allotted an Assistant Grand Director as follows: —Waikato, V. Wor. Bro. P. P. Bynon-Powell; Southland, V. Wor. Bro. A. Noble; Ruapehu, V. Wor. Bro. G. N. Mac Diarmid; Hawke’s Bay, V. Wor. Bro. A. R. Davis; NelsonMarlborough, V. Wor. Bro. G. Mitchell; West Coast, V. Wor. Bro. T. Ecclesfield; Taranaki, V. Wor. Bro. G. H. Hutton.

Two Senior Grand Deacons elected are V. Wor. Bro. A. Burgess, of Wellington, and V. Wor. Bro. T. H. Ker, of Canterbury, and Junior Grand Deacons are V. Wor. Bro. L. C. E. Hamann, of Auckland, and V. Wor. Bro. J. D. King, of Otago.
