AMATEUR ATHLETICS
REMARKABLY CLOSE FINISHES
The state of the track and the perfect conditions would have given occasion for fast times at the weekly meeting of the Whangarei Amateur Athletic Club held last night but the timekeepers were not on duty.
A remarkably close finish was seen in the final of the men’s 75 yards, the whole six starters practically breaking the tape en masse. The judges were presented with a difficult task and at the end of considerable discussion, sorted out the placings. Only three went away from the post in the night’s marathon —the three miles.
