VALUABLE LEAFLETS

ADVERTISING WHANGAREI CHAMBER’S EFFORTS APPRECIATED, BUT STOCKS HAVE BECOME DEPLETED. That the excellent literature advertising Wliangarei and the North that has been produced by the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce has been appreciated by tourists and others desiring to visit the North, has been deftnitely. proved by the demand that there has been for these pamphlets. The demand has been so great that the stocks available have been seriously depleted and none can , now be obtained at the Auckland office of the Government Tourist Bureau. Two ladies, one from Auckland ana one from Wellington, who were in Whangarei today after a visit to Russell and the Bay of Islands, said that these instructive leaflets could not be obtained at the Auckland Bureau, as no further stocks were on hand, with the result that the information they received was lessened in value. The fact that the stocks of literature have been used up is an indication that the production of this form of information has been worth while, and worth the support of business men. The opinion was expressed this morning that if the demand was to be met greater support would have to be given to the Chamber’s laudable efforts in supplying this want. The tourist season will be commencing shortly and the pamphlets are a necessity. Both the ladies spoken to this morning were very pleased with what they had seen in the North. At Russell they saw the historic church and flagstaff and also visited Paihia and Kerikeri. Faihia, said one, was the prettiest place of all. As they proceeded to Opua direct by train, their stock of information was meagre, for the reason stated, but today in Whangarei they were in touch with the local office of the Tourist Bureau and were supplied with leaflets and full information of Whangarei and the district beauty spots. . ' Some individuals, however, still seem to show a' remarkable lack of knowledge of their own town. One of the ladies asked a person at the place in which she is staying where Dobie’s Park was situated, and could not be told!
