CONFERENCE PROHIBITED

OPPOSITION TO WAR. SWITZERLAND’S BAN. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 14. The “Manchester Guardian’s” Geneva correspondent says the Swiss General Council prohibits the holding of an international conference at Basle tomorrow to protest against the war between Italy and Abyssinia. This action has been taken on the ground that the holding of the conference there might imperil the Federation’s international relations, but the prohibition is reported to be due to pressure from Signor Mussolini. Foreigners who enter the country to attend will be turned back, and foreigners residing in Switzerland, who may partake in such a conference, will be exiled.
