American Critics
NAZI REGIME “ABHORRENT PROGRAMME” PROTEST BY CONSUL-GENERAL. OLYMPIC GAMES QUESTION. C United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph.—Copyright.! (Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 13. Two criticisms in legislative quarters concerning Nazi Germany have been recorded within the past 24 hours. The first was a resolution passed by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, “viewing with alarm the fact that certain residents of the Reich are being persecuted, on account of their religious faith and nationality.” The other was an observation in the United States Senate by Mr P. G. Gerry (Democrat —Rhode Island). He said he wondered if American sportsmen should not give serious consideration to the question whether the United States should participate in the Olympic Games “if conditions in Germany continue as they are.” The Consul-General at Boston wrote to the Governor of Massachusetts, Mr J. M. Curly, objecting to the State’s “unwarranted and unpardonable interference in the domestic affairs of my country.” To this, the Governor replied that the German programme was abhorrent to right-thinking men and women the world over, and defended the resolution.
