WHANGAROA HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. ADOPTION OF BALANCE SHEET. The- chief business at the meeting of the Whangaroa Hospital Board on Monday was the adoption of the balance {sheet for the past financial year. Mr E. Shepherd (the chairman) presided. Dr. Mail, the new medical officer, presented .bis report. There were four admissions and four discharges during the past month. There were no deaths. At the end of the month there were three inmates in l’;e hospital. Dr Mail requested the board to repair the path up to the nurses’ heme. After a considerable amount of discussion. the secretary was directed' to write to the neighbouring boards regarding' the admission of financial patients to the Whangaroa Hospital. The district nurse also presented her monthly report. There were 84 Maoris and one European treated over the period. Sixteen cases of infant welfare were dealt with. The following settlements were visited 1 :—Wainui-Ke-nana, Otangaroa-Patehga, Ngaere Bay, Waitaruke, Totara, Matangirau, Matauri Bay, Takau Bay and Whangaroa. Chickenpox is prevalent in Kaeo. Lectures on the treatment cf burns and bathing new-born babies were given at six settlements. Ante-natal advice was given in four cases, as was post-natal advice. The number of infants seen was 16, and 1 the number of attendances 28. A sum of £404 4/7 was written off on Die balance sheet as hospital fees, which were irrecoverable. Hospital maintenance accounted-for £1733 16/3. The profit and loss account showed £2614 12/ expenditure, as against £2416 2/1 receipts, giving a debit balance of £l9B 9/11. The value of land, buildings and equipment is estimated at £ 9290 6/(1.
