MR MURDOCH BUSY

WORK IN WAIKATO. WARD DELEGATE ELECTED. [Special to “Northern Advocate.’’] MORRINSVILLE, This Day. An account of the working of the recently constituted Dairy Produce Board was given by the chairman, Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P., when addressing a conference of South Auckland producers at Morrinsville. Directors of 14 dairy companies in the Waikato, King Country and Thames Valley attended, and the proceedings lasted for five hours. Special reference was made by Mr Murdoch to the assistance the Dairy Board was giving in its research work. The board had agreed to contribute £6OOO this year, the Government finding another £II,OOO. Reports from Home indicated that good results were being achieved from the expenditure of £35,000 last year on advertising New Zealand dairy produce. Mr Murdoch referred to the proposed extension of the farm dairy instruction service, towards the cost of which the board had offered to contribute £IO,OOO, if the Government found the balance. The board was taking evidence on the question of regulating the local marketing of butter to prevent price cutting by dairy companies.

Mr Murdoch paid a tribute to the work of the old board in arranging for contracts for freight and insurance on New Zealand produce. The new insurance contract coming into force on September 1 would mean a saving of £17,500 to the dairy Industry. It was the aim of the new board to Work in harmony with those at Home receiving New Zealand produce. All members of the board would accept responsibility for the decisions of the majority of the members.
