Mr L. S. Uonnelley, assistant engm- j eer to the Egmont County Council, j was yesterday appointed engineer o the Hokianga County Council from among 29 applicants. Mr G. E. Cartwright, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed manager of the 0 Aro, Wellington, branch of the bank. The Rev. T. N. Cuttle, of Somervell Church, Remuera, was last night appointed Moderator of the Auckland Presbytery for the ensuing six months in succession to the Rev. W. P. Rankin. of New Lynn. From Sydney comes news of thh death of a former well-known Southland resident, Mrs John Black, mother of the popular Black family of musi- 1 clans who were well-known throughout New Zealand and Australia, where they toured successfully for many years. She was 72 years of age. Advice has been received of the death in England, after an illness of two months, of Dr. W. G. Fern, PhD D Sc., of the Fern Business Institute. Dr. Fern recently toured New Zealand, speaking in every main centre to large audiences. He also visited many of the main provincial towns. There will arrive in Whangarei tomorrow morning Mrs IVToffat Clow, of Belfast, Ireland, who has accepted an invitation from the Dominion Women’s Christian Temperance Union to remain in New Zealand for two months to assist in educational work. Mrs Clow has varied interests, and in addition to being a -world's executive member of the W.C.T.U., and founder and president of the Ulster organisation she is a leading figure in the Presbyterian Women’s Missionaiy Association. As an ex-president of the Christian Endeavour Union of Great Britain, she is keenly interested in youth work, and as editor of the “Irish Endeavour,” is in close touch with it.
