DEATH FROM PNEUMONIA

MAORI WOMAN’S FATE. INQUEST AT HORA HORA. An inquest was held at Hora Hora this morning by the coroner, Mr C. F. Collins, into the death of a Maori woman, Ana Marea Mei, aged 48 years, whose death occurred yesterday. Before her death the woman, who was married with five children, proceeded to the residence of her father, Mr Maihi Mahunga, at Hora Hora, to receive medical attention, but she died before Dr. Goodwin could reach her. The verdict was that death was due to acute lobar pneumonia, in accordance with the medical evidence. FOUND IN A GERMAN DUG-OUT PICTURES OF WHANGAREI PLAY-ACTORS. CURIO AT ANTIQUE EXHIBITION. At the antique exhibition being held in the Presbyterian Hall there is a framed sheet from an illustrated newspaper showing some of the cast in “Les Cloches de Corneville,” performed by the Whangarei Philharmonic Society about 20 years ago. The picture looks as any other illustrated page looks, but there is a remai’kable history attached to it. When Mr R. Drummond was serving on the Western Front, he, with a party of New Zealanders, was taking possession of a German dug-out. As they were moving over, another New Zealand soldier handed over the sheet which he had found in the enemy dug-out. The coincidence of the find was all the greater when Mr Drummond saw that his own sister was performing in the production. No one could explain how the page came to be in a German trench. The page was from the old “Weekly Graphic and New Zealand Mail,” now extinct.
