MR McCARROLL RESIGNS

HOSPITAL BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP, UNABLE TO DEVOTE NECESSARY TIME. MR MacKAY APPOINTED. The resignation of Mr J. N. McCarroll as chairman of the Whangarei Hospital Board was accepted at a meeting of the board this morning. Mr McCarroll wrote stating that owing to his appointment to the Mortgage Relief Commission he did not feel that he could devdte the necessary time to the hospital board’s work. In moving that the resignation be accepted with regret, Mr J. A. S. MacKay said that the whole board would be sorry to lose Mr McCarroll as their chairman. During Mr McCarroll’s term of office, he had always displayed unfailing tact and courtesy. Their regret at his resignation was tempered to some extent by the fact that Mr McCarroll was not leaving the board altogether, and also by the knowledge that-he was taking up a most important work—perhaps the most important work for the people of the North at the present time. Mrs Donaldson; “We are losing a tactful and capable chairman.” Mr F. Elliott: “He was rrtost fair and impartial, and in every way a competent chairman.” Mr F. Higginson: “I would like to emphasise the great amount of time he devoted to the work. Few realised the time he gave in carrying out his duties as chairman.” Mr Barclay: “I have sat under many chairmen and I have no fault to find with him whatever.” The resignation was accepted and a letter of appreciation of Mr McCarroll’s past services is to be forwarded. New Chairman. Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay was nominated as the board’s new chairman and was elected without opposition. Mr Mac Kay, in returning thanks, mentioned that he had served on the board for some time now, and had seen every other seat change during the time he had been on the board. As one of the members had said, Mr McCarroll had set a very high standard of chairmanship, but he could assure them that he would give of his best, with the help of the members, who had always contributed to the good conduct of meetings.
