FULHAM’S STEEPLES. HIGHARDO BEST IN STAKES. MELBOURNE, August 11. A good record in important jumping events in Victoria this season was completed by the aged Poitrel gelding, Fulham, at Caulfield yesterday, when he won the Australian Steeplechase. Fulham was successful in the Victoria Grand National Hurdles on July 6, but fell in the steeplechase on July 16, while he ran second to Sixteen Annas in the Australian Hurdle Race a week ago. The New Zealand-bred gelding Metro, ridden by K. Voitre, was defeated only by half a head in the Balaclava Stakes by Highardo, to whom he conceded a stone in weight. Bunsby Gaze run unplaced in this race. The Mirror was second in the Arkaringa Hurdles, in which Shatter ran unplaced. First Song was unplaced in the St. Aubin Welter, and Membo in the Knowsley Steeples. Buckler. Laniroi, Atteifte, Mitten. Wakerife. Two lengths and a half; half a length. Time—7.lo. Balaclava Stakes, of 500 sovs; one mile and three furlongs.—Highardo, 7.5 (Thomison), 1; Metro (N.Z.-bred), 8.5 (Voitre), 2; Gay Star. 9.2 (Skidmore). 3. Six started. Half a head; two lengths. Time —2.33:1. ' ROSEHILL EVENTS. NEW ZEALANDERS 'UNSUCCESSFUL. SYDNEY, August 11. No New Zealand or New Zealand bred horses were successful at the Rosehill races yesterday, but several were placed. Latharna finished second, an<J Saecula third in the Three-Year-Old Handicap, seven furlongs, in which Golden Treasure, Parquet and Maestro were unplaced. Loud Applause ran second in the Maiden Handicap, one mile. Silver Ring and Theo were unplaced in the Flying Handicap, six furlongs. Gladswood finished third, and Limoux fourth in the Rosehill Handicap, one mile and a quarter. Golden Gate was second in the Parramatta Mile. Silver Ring’s performance greatly disappointed his connections. He was strongly fancied for the Flying Handicap, but could not finish better than sixth, after getting away poorly.
