SAFE STOLEN

| TAKEN FROM SHOP | EXPLOSIVE USED. | WANGANUI BURGLARY. | 1 f Special h. ~ Northern Advocate."^, I WANGANUI, This Day. i A daring burglary was committed ; at Wanganui on Saturday night, when I intruders entered the premises oi i McGruer’s Ltd., a leading drapery I firm, stole a heavy safe and removed I it in a vehicle to the sand hills three ! miles from the town, where they blew lit open with explosives. The thieves secured a sum of money, but the j amount has not yet been ascertained. | Although the premises entered are jin Victoria Avenue, the main street, j nothing was known of the affair until | the battered safe was discovered this | afternoon by a cyclist, who immedi- ! ately told the police. I The safe was particularly heavy, j eiid it would have taken at least two I men to have removed it. Entry was | made to the firm’s office through a i back window, the safe being carried j about 10 feet across the floor and J dropped cut of the window to the j ground, about 6ft. below, j The safe was then carried out j through an entrance to a yard at the iback of the premises and placed, it i is thought, in either a motor car or a i motor lorry. The burglars took I special precautions to prevent detection, the yard gates being closed again from the inside. The lock was blown completely off the safe, and is thought by the police, that, from the methods adopted, the perpretrators were expert safe blowj ers.
