SURGICAL SKILL
MANGLED LEG, “REMADE”
CORONER’S AMAZEMENT
SYDNEY, July 24
A witness who had had his left leg mangled in a motor accident last October limped into the Coroner’s Court on crutches to give evidence. During the long period he had been in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital the limb had been “remade,” and when he discards the crutches soon, the leg will be only slightly shorter than the right limb. The City Coroner (Mr. E. T. Oram) expressed amazement at the surgical skill which saved the leg from amputation.
The inquest was on Henry Gilbert Hart, 31, of Sunshine Street, Manly, who died on January 21 as the result of injuries received when his motor cycle collided with a car on the Spit Road, Mosman, on October 28 last. Eric Clive Munn, who was riding pillion, was thrown to the road and his leg was severely injured. An interesting exhibit tendered at the inquest was plaster model of The Spit hill where the accident occurred. The model was made to scale and showed the circumstances in which the collision'took place.
The coroner found that Hart had died from shock after a surgical operation following accidental injuries.
