WOMAN SHOT
HUSBAND INDICTED. REMANQ GRANTED. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”} PALMERSTON N„ This Day. ' Mrs Elsie Elizabeth Symes, who was wounded by a pearifle bullet at Whakaronga on Wednesday, underwent an operation in an endeavour to locate the bullet. Her condition yesterday was reported to bo satisfactory, but still serious. It is understood that arrangements have been made to take her depositions. Her husband, who is 22 years of age, appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting his wife so as to cause her actual bodily harm. On the application of the police, accused was remanded until August 1. Mrs Symes was one of the .survivors of a launch accident in the Manawatu River near ..Koputarda in March, 1931, when both her parents and her young brother, with two others, lost their lives. On that occasion Mr Symes assisted to rescue his present wife and another girl.
