“MR SPEAKER’S” RETIREMENT
DUNEDIN CENTRAL SEAT,
THREE NAMES MENTIONED
[Special to “Nortnern Advocate.”} DUNEDIN, This Day.
With Sir Charles Statham’s retirement, there is a good deal of speculation as to who will oppose Mr Peter Neilson (Labour), who at the last general election ran Sir Charles Statham so close in Dunedin Central. Sir Charles has held the seat since December, 1911. The name of the Rev. L. B. Neale, Methodist, formerly of Christchurch, lias been freely mentioned as a possible candidate in the national interests. When approached on the subject he was not prepared to say that he would be a candidate nr that he would not. Asked if he had been requested to stand, he said he preferred to say nothing in the meantime.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. S. Falconer has, been asked to consent to nomination as the Democrat Party’s candidate. and he is giving the -mailer consideration. A Wellington message says that Sir Charles Statham does not desire to make any comment.
