SWEDISH SAILOR'S ADVENTUREDARING UNREWARDED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE. This Day. Karl Hjelmstrom, a Swedish apprentice, who deserted from the C. B. Pedersen, was brought to Thursday Island from Yorke Island. He told how-he went over the side with the captain's bathtub, on which he had fitted an outrigger and improvised a sail. He set out for Darnley Island, which he reached after six hours. From there he was taken to Yorke Island. He will be charged with being a prohibited immigrant.

Hjelmstrom, who is 21, .was lured by stories of gold and adventure in New Guinea to leave his ship and attempt to reach that island. He was reported on July 14 to be drifting somewhere in Torres Strait. He had taken a small supply of water, food and clothing with him.
