The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports on the weekly fat stock sale held at Westfield yesterday as follows: — “Though the market over ' all classes was a small one, our entry of beef for the time of the year was nearly an average one. Under the circumstances there was a keen demand and values for all classes improved 10/ to £1 a head. Extra choice ox sold to 26/ per lOOlbs; choice and prime, 22/ to 25/; ordinary and plain, 8/ to 21/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 21/ to 25/; ordinary cow, 15/ to 20/. “No extra heavy prime steers were penned. Heavy, £9 5/ to £10; lighter, £8 5/ to £9 2/6; light, £7 to £8 2/6; small and unfinished, £5 15/ to £6 17/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £6 2/6 to £7 7/; heavy, £5 15/ to £6 10/; lighter, £4 15/ to £5 12/6; light, £3 10/ to £4 2/6; others, £1 10/ to £3 5/.

Sheep.—Sheep were yarded in smaller numbers. There was a ready demand, with values for prime wethers firm at late rates, and values for prime ewes about one shilling better. Heavy prime wethers made 27/6 to 28/6; medium prime, 26/ to 27/3; light prime, 23/ to 25/9; small and unfinished, 20/ to 22/9; heavy prime ewes, 19/6 to 21/; medium prime, 18/ to 19/3; light prime, 16/ to 17/9; inferior, 8/ to 15/.

Lambs.—Lambs were penned in average numbers and sold readily at late quotations. Heavy prime, 22/ to 23/9; medium. 20/ to 21/9; light, 17/ to 19/; unfinished, 12/ to 16/6. Pigs,—Pigs were penned in average numbers. Competition was keen throughout for porkers, values being very firm on last week’s quotations. Baconers also showed an improvement in values. Choppers sold from 40/ to 71/; light and medium baconers, 60/ to 75/; light baconers and heavy porkers, 45/ to 57/; medium and light porkers, 40/ to 47/; small porkers, 30/ to 36/; unfinished, 23/ to 29/.

Store pigs were again keenly sought after, values being firm at last week’s rates. Light stores, 23/ to 29/; slips, 16/ to 22/; weaners, 7/ to 18/. Calves. —Calves were penned in small numbers, few extra prime vealers being penned. There was a keen sale, with a sharp rise in values. Runners, 50/ to 97/6; heavy vealers, 80/ to 87/; medium, 70/ to 78/; light, 60/ to 68/; smaller, 40/ to 58/; small and fresh-dropped, 5/ to 36/; rough calves, 10/ to 25/. Individual Lots.

In the cow and heifer beef section the high price of £9 was paid for each of two very prime Hereford heifers from G. Booth, of Tuakau.
