HELD UP
I EXPRESS TO NORTH FLOODS AT WAYBY, DELAY OF SOME HOURS. Floods and slips have delayed the express from Auckland, and it is expected to be some hours late. The rain was heavier further south and the main areas affected appear to .be between Wellsford and Warkworth. The low-lying areas between Wayby and Hoteo are under water, and a slip is moving across the railway line. It is there that the Auckland-Opua express which left Auckland at 8.40 a.m. and was due to reach Whangarei at 2.15 .p.m. was held up. The train has been sent back to Helensville to enable the passengers to get refreshments. . With the rising tide backing up the flood and the fact that heavy rain is still falling, the prospect of the through service being renewed early is not hopeful. An inspection of the line was made late this afternoon by inspectors, but no decision as to whether the train would be brought Through to Whangarei had been madg at 3 p.m. SOUTH-BOUND EXPRESS. HELD'AT MAUNGATUROTO. 'the express, which left Opua for Auckland at 9 o’clock this morning reached Maungaturoto at 1.33 p.m. and was ordered to remain there until the line is reported clear, SLIP SOUTH OF HELENSVILLE. HALF-HOUR’S DELAY. A small slip on the railway line between Helensville • and Kaukapakapa held up the Auckland-bound train for half an hour this morning.
