The victim was Mr Hugh Black, aged 38, single, of Morven. His companion, Mr Peter Burke, was injured and taken to hospital. The two men were the occupants jof a gig travelling from Waimate to j Morven, when the vehicle was struck |at the approach of the Waihao bridge by a car driven by Professor Galli, of Timaru. Both occupants of the gig were thrown out.
