KAITAIA IMPROVEMENTS

The process of bringing shops in Kaitaia into line with the progress of the times still continues.

The latest improvement is to the hardware shop owrifed by Mr G. Rickards, next to the Post Office, The shop itself has been enlarged by taking in a space formerly reserved for storage at the back, giving an additional 400 square feet of floor space. The front of the .building is being completely remodelled. As originally built, little provision was made for window display, but now the whole of the front is glass, and to increase the show space the front, entrance has been carried some feet back from the street alignment of the building, permitting of additional windows on each side. A cashier’s desk, glassed in, has been constructed at the extreme end of the shop, and faces towards the front entrance.'' New counters are being put in as well as other fittings, and the shop will have, when completed* a thoroughly modern appearance, as well as being much more convenient for the transaction of business. Mr Rickard’s office retains its old position.
