Police Court, fined £25 for being in possession of prepared opium. Mr J. F. W. Dickson appeared for accused,'who pleaded guilty... It was stated’by Senior-Detective Hall that yesterday, when Detective Moore and Brady visited, accused’s house to interview him on another matter, they found an ounce 1 of prepared opium and' an opium pipe with some opium seconds iTr, it. Chan Fun told them that he bought it from a man on a coastal boat for £3. • “This Chinese had £6 on him, and offered it, to the detectives in full payment) if they would let the matter 'drop,’’' added Mr Hall. “This man is a drug addict . who must resort to smoking opium, as he ic suffering with consumption of both lungs,” said Mr Dickson. “Perhaps your Worship will impose the minimum fine of £25 in these circumstances. It is really a license for him to carry on, as he is so ill.” ;. . - The Chinese was allowed one month to pay the fine, the magistrate stating that . the circumstances were unusual.
