NAVAL RATIO
THE GERMAN CLAIM BRITISH AGREEMENT TWO STIPULATIONS MADE, TONNAGE AND PROGRAMME. [United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright .] LONDON, June 11. The “Daily Herald” says that the British Government has agreed to Germany’s claim to a navy 35 per cent the size of Britain’s, provided that the proportion shall not apply to the total tonnage, but to each type of ship, also that the building programme be spread over a number of years, so as not to give an advantage of new ships over old.
Finally, Britain’s agreement is subject to the condition that it shall be subject to the approval of other naval powers.
The “Daily Telegraph” says it understands the United States has no objection, but the French attitude is less complaisant. Italy is likely to be sympathetic. A cable message from Tokio states that Japan has no objection to the proposed agreement.
