NATIONAL FEDERATION. CANTERBURY SUPPORTERS. [Per Press Association. — Copyright . 3 CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Many supporters of the Reform and United parties met in Christchurch last night to organise a Canterbury branch of the National Political Federation, to elect officers and a working committee, and to make preliminary arrangements for the general election campaign and for the Lyttelton by-election contest. '"Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., was elected president and the Hon. W. Hayward, M.L.C., and Mr H. G. Livingstone, vice-presidents. An executive and a sub-committee were set up. The following resolution was passed:— “That this meeting of Reform .and United parties whole-heartedly supports the undertaking of the leaders of the party to form a national federation, and agrees to set up an organisation in Canterbury to support the interests of National, Government candidates.” WAIKARAPA SEAT.

A large meeting of Reform Party members, representative of the Wairarapa electorate, was held in Carterton last night to consider the position arising out df the recent announcement of the Hon. A. D. McLeod, member for Wairarapa that, for health reasons, he would not be contesting the seat at the forthcoming general election. The following resolution was carried unanimously:—
“That this meeting of representatives of the Reform Party in the Wairarapa electorate agrees to co-operate with the United Party in the selection of a National Government candidate to contest the seat at the forthcoming election.”
