A REDUCTION

HARBOUR BOARD RATE. NOW FIVE-EIGHTHS OF ID. The Whangarci Harbour rate will be less this year. At a special meeting of the board held to consider the matter, it was resolved that the rate to be collected fer 1935-36 be five-eighths of a penny in the £1 on unimproved value, as against a rate of ijd last year. The reduction has been made possible as the result of economics.

Last year the board collected approximately 75 per cent of the rate levied, the net revenue to the board from this source being £5425. It is estimated that receipts from the lower rate now decided upon will be £4521. From the estimates before the board it will appear, says the secretary, Mr W. M. Fraser, that a greater reduction might be possible next year.
