BEEF AT WESTFIELD
A FIRM MARKET OX BEEF 24/- PER 100 LBS. [Special to "Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day. There was more than an average yarding of ox beef In evidence at the Westfield stock sale today, and heavyweight cattle were in keen demand. The quality generally was better than usual, and bidding was spirited throughout the sale. The top price of the morning, £ll 10/-, was realised for a particularly well finished Shorthorn bullock from Mr. H. E. Reed. Waerenga. This is the best price for ox beef for some weeks. Late rates ruled in most cases, and ox remained firm at 24/- per 100 lbs. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency. Co., Ltd., report that at Westfield today beef was penned in average numbers, for which there was a ready demand, with last week’s advance rates fully maintained. Extra choice ox sold to 25/- per 100 lbs; choice and prime, 20/- to 24/-; secondary and plain, 16/- to 19/-; prime young cow and heifer beef, 20/- to 24/-; ordinary cow beef, 14/- to 19/-. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £lO to £11; heavy, £9 to £9 15/-; lighter, £8 to £8 17/6; light, £6 to £7 17/6; small and unfinished, £3 5/- to £5 15/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £6 5/- to £7 5/-; heavy, £5 7/6 to £6 2/6; lighter, £4 7/6 to £5 5/-; light, £2 15/- to £4 5/-; other,/£1 5/- to £2 10/-.
