AN ALTERATION
DUKE’S ITINERARY SEQUEL TO CUT FOOT. SPENDING TODAY IN AUCKLAND. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND. This Day. His Royal Highness unfortunately injured his foot while bathing on Tuesday. and in consequence, on medical advice, ho is resting it as much as possible.
The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, attending the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Alexandra Park yesterday afternoon, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Duke of Gloucester, mentioning that it was necessary for His Royal Highness to nurse his injured foot. If he did not do so he would not be able to carry out the remainder of his tour, and he (His Excellency) was sure Aucklanders would not wish that to happen. It was noticed when the Duke of Gloucester visited Ellerslie that he was walking with a limp, and on Wednesday evening it was officially intimated that the. Royal visitor had suffered a slight injuiw to his foot as the result of a cut while bathing on Tuesday. This necessitated a curtailment of part of his plans, and His Royal Highness was not present at the ball at Government House.
Although yesterday there was a slight improvement in the condition of his foot. His Royal Highness is taking no risks and is giving it the maximum rest.
Yesterday morning, when obviously suffering inconvenience from his foot, the Duke drove to the Domain to witness the children’s rally which had been arranged there. He was wearing a slipper on the injured foot, and during the children’s display he rested it on a footstool. He was unable to inspect the children on foot, but drove among them when they had been drawn up on the ground. After the children’s rally he returned to Government House, having no other engagements to fulfil until the garden party late yesterday afternoon. He remained seated in a chair, where the guests were presented to him.
An alteration has been made in the itinerary of the Duke, which will give him an extra day in Auckland. He will now leave for Hamilton by train at 10.45 a.m. tomorrow. He will arrive there at 1.15 p.m., and will be welcomed at the Hamilton railway station by the Mayor of Hamilton before going to Seddon Park, where a civic reception will take place.
At 1.40 p.m. His Royal Highness will leave for Ruakura and Cambridge, He will rejoin the train at Ohaupo at 5.30 and go on to the Chateau Tongariro.
