ESTATE DEATH DUTY
APPLICATION FOR REBATE [Per Press Association. — Copyright.] , , WELLINGTON, This Day. A petition for the rebate of approximately £70,000 paid in. death duties in connection with the estate of the late Sir Joseph Ward was presented to the House of. Representatives on behalf of Mrs. Eileen Josephine Wood, a daughter of. the former Prime Minister. Mrs, Wood stated that she was allowed £3OO a year out of an estate that was valued by the Public Trustee at over £300,000. Her father’s home at Heretaunga belonged to the estate, and the family agreed to her receiving an additional £3 a week from the rental. She was not able to afford to live in the house herself. Her share of the estate was approximately £12,150. Her income was so diminished that she found it impossible to meet the ex-1 penses incurred by her during the two years her father was Prime Minister. and she took her mother’s place as hostess,, 1 “I realise,” said petitioner, “that I cannot legally regain any part of this amount, so I therefore reluctantly make this petition owing to the difficulties in which I find myself placed.”
