FOES OVERTHROWN DEMOCRATS HOLD SWAY “NEW DEAL” EXTENSION. PROMPT PREPARATIONS. [United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. 3 (Received 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, November 7. Details of the results heartened President Roosevelt as he began his preparations to extend the “New Deal.” According to the latest returns the Democrat sweep has engulfed outstanding Republican foes. The Government has gained 9 seats in the Senate, increasing its representation to 69, and obtaining more than a twothirds majority for the first time since the Republican party was organised.
In the Lower, House the Democrats have more than held their own, and the indications are that the party will have 313‘0f the 435 seats.
Moreover, the Democrats have gained complete control of the Governorships and Senate representation in 23 States. These States constitute not only an astonishingly popular endorsement of the “New Deal,” but a definite repudiation of the extremely conservative Republican element. Mr David A. Reed (Republican— Pennsylvania), one of the outstanding critics of Mr Roosevelt’s policy, failed to gain election to the new Senate, as was anticipated yesterday.
