KARA-KOKOPU

GUY FAWKES’ CELEBRATIONS. Guy Fawkes’ night was celebrated at the Kokopu School on Saturday evening. Weather conditions were ideal and there was a surprisingly large attendance of parents and other residents, in addition to the pupils of the combined schools. The children had collected materials for a huge bonfire, which, surmounted by an effigy of Guy, made a fine blaze. The Kokopu teacher, Mr J. Wilson, assisted by members of the school committee, had charge of a fine display of fireworks, and the youngsters had a gay time. Supper was provided by the ladies. Good progress is being made with the metalling of the clay gap on the Kokopu-Poroti road, which, when completed, will be greatly appreciated by the settlers in the district.
