THURSDAY CRICKET
ALBION’S TWO-POINTER !
IRVING BOWLS WELL j i FIVE FOR EIGHT ! i j For the first time in history the two , i teams of Albion Club met at the Re-. clamation yesterday. The result was a : 1 two-pointer for Albion, led by Nisbet. | I who might have secured a three-; pointer, but apparently was content i with one point less. Fyfe batted nice-1 ly for 29, and one of the features was * the trundling of Irving, whose figures showed 5 for 8. He has a nasty nip from the pitch, and one of these gave Nordstrand a rap on the nose, the batsman having to temporarily retire. The ground was an improvement on last | week, the outfield particularly being : faster, but the scoring proportionately was not higher. For the third time in three matches 89 was the first innings . tally of a side playing on No. 1 wicket, : the others being Services and “Advocate.” j Details;— ALBION COLTS Angelo, c McKay, b Irving 10 Monk, b Nisbet 0 Smith, run out 7 Wilton, c Findlay, b Irving 2 Wells, c Nisbet, b Irving 7 Drake, Ibw. b Belcher 1 Primrose, b Irving 0 Nordstrand. not out 1 : Curtis, b Irving 0 < McEwen, b Belcher 8 Robinson, c Reed, b Belcher 0 Extras 4 Total 40 Bowling: Nisbet 1 for 14, Irving 5 for 8, Belcher 3 for 14. j Second Innings. j McEwen. b Whimp 0 Robinson, c McKay, b Reed 1 Nordstrand, c and b Reed 0 Monk, c Reed, b Goode 4; Curtis, b Whimp 7 ■ Drake, run out 5 Wells, b Belcher 24 Wilton, not out 1 Smith, not out 12 ; Extras 7 ■ Total (for 7 wickets) 61 Bowling: Whimp 2 for 4, Reed 2 for 8, Goode. 1 for 13, McKay 0 for 8, Martin 0 for 15, Belcher 1 for 7. OLD BOYS AT ’KARAMEA V FRIENDLY MATCH Having advanced three points on the competition ladder by reason of a default from High School, Old Boys were quick to take advantage of the well-known hospitality of Maungakaramea to spend an enjoyable afternoon in the country. The ’Karamea wicket was playing tricks, and their first session produced 127,. Old Boys’ start was disastrous, when 5 were down for 10, and it seemed improbable that 27 would be reached. However, M. Kelly and I Given combined to hit forcefully, and although the 100 was not passed, they at least made the total into respectable propoi’tions. Details:— MAUNGAKARAMEA L.
