POWER FOR NORTH

PROPOSAL TAKES ON

EXTENSION OF RETICULATION

KEEN INTEREST SHOWN,

(Special to “Northern Advocate.'') AUCKLAND, Tins Day

“The proposals for extending electricity to Northland, to which publicity has been given during the past four weeks, have found a keen response throughout the North,” said Mr C. L. Bagnall, of Dargaville, this morning.

“Everywhere residents are asking ‘when may we expect electric power.’ One Dargaville firm has deferred an expenditure it proposed making upon a plant with which to generate electricity for the lighting of its premises. The Kawakawa Town Board, at its last meeting, instructed the town clerk to write to the Waitemata Electric Power Board asking for details of its proposals for electrically reticulating the North. The Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce has asked me why the Bay of Islands County, in which is included the Kawakawa and Kaikohe Town Boards, is not included in the major Northland power scheme as outlined on August 15. “The Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce has been advised that it should, in conjunction with the local bodies in the Bay county, be actively concerning itself with the matter of linking up with the North Auckland Electric Board by the circulation of a petition, which, according to law, must be signed by a certain proportion of its ratepayers, asking for the inclusion of their territory in that of the North Auckland Electric Power Board. “It is rather interesting to note that at Waiotira Junction, where the whole of the telephone systems are being renewed, provision is being made so that power lines can be carried on the top of the same poles. There is some expectation at Waiotira that electric power will be available within two years.”
