MISHAP TO STEAMER
NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED ACTION FOR DAMAGES (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) TIMARU, This Day. A claim for £IOOO general damages and £IBO special damages was made before Mr Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court yesterday by David Mills, a wharf labourer, against the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company. The action arose out of an accident on the coastal vessel Storm. Plaintiff alleged that owing to the negligence of winehmen a net controlled by them got out of control, precipitating plaintiff into the hold and seriously injuring him. Plaintiff also alleged that the defendant company carried on unloading operations under a defective system. i The defence was a general denial of the allegations, and a counter-allegation i that the plaintiff’s injuries were contributed to by his own negligence. j The hearing was not concluded.
