RECORD QUANTITY SOLD t DALGETY’S ANALYSIS. BRITAIN BEST BUYER. A record quantity of wool was sold in New Zealand during the season ended June 30, according to figures prepared by Dalgety & Co., Ltd. The. total disposed of was 050,088 bales, an increase of 74,404 bales on last year’s total and 22,857 bales greater than the previous higher figure, established in 1018-10. The quantities disposed of at the various centres were as follows: —Auckland 08,011 bales; Christchurch, 82,773; Dunedin, 103,021; Invercargill, 40,177; Napier, 00,277; Timam, 34,380; Wellington, 125,500; Wanganui, 80,034; Blenheim, Nelson and Gisborne, 3940. The purchases made by the United Kingdom again exceeded any others, Britain taking 227,500 bales, compared with 228,724 in the previous season. The destination of other purchases, as far as could be ascertained, with the corresponding figures of the previous season in parentheses were as follows: Japan, China, India, 42,387 bales (24,525); France, 03,150 (100,250); Germany and Austria, 123,454 (01,030); Belgium and Holland, 3(5,700 (40,350); United Kingdom and Canada, .14,407 (8270); Russia, Norway, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Denmark, 9200 (Russia, Norway and Sweden only 4250); New Zealand manufacturers, 2.1,500 (23,120); New Zealand scourers, 52,000 (25,505); Australia and Tasmania 1(5,700 (8150). To demonstrate the expansion of the industry during the past 30 years, the company has prepared comparative figures showing the average gross value and average prices per bale of wool sold in the Dominion from 1003-4 to 1933-34. The quantity sold in the first year amounted to 117,07(5 bales, and realised £1,130,69(5, or £0 14/8 a bale. During the war years of 1914-18 the quantities rose from 321,927 bales, realising £4,846,940 and averaging £ls 1/1 a bale, to 627,831 bales in 1918-19,, when the largest wool cheque ever obtained for the Dominion’s output was received, amounting to £14,755,247, or an average of £23 9/10 a bale. The latter •average remained the record until 1.02425, when £2O 5/ a bale was attained. In the slump year of 1021-22 there was a serious fall in values, 367,381 bales realising a gross value of £4,207,367, or an average of £9 a bale, the past season the average was around £l6 3/3 a bale.
