WINTER EXHIBITION
WELL PATRONISED YESTERDAY DELIGHTS FOR CHILDREN. CONCERT IN EVENING. As the brightness and varied attraction of the Wliangarci Winter Show become better known, public patronage increases, as was proved yesterday. The gate takings with those tor last year in brackets, were: Day £33 4/ (£2O 17/0); night, £24 9/0 (£2O 9/3); The receipts so far have been £139 13/ (£IOB 0/0).
Yesterday afternoon was especially set aside for the children, and the Drill Hall was packed with the happy little ones and (heir parents. Probablv the most interesting feature was a parade of [lets. Numerically, dogs led the rest, but proud owners led round every variety of cat, from Persian to stray tabby, bantams, a billy goat, Peter Hu* Angora rabbit, and some carried feathered friends. Every child who took part in the parade Avas presented with a sizeable bag of sweetmeats. The balloon-bdrsthig also created much diversion, and not a little noise. The baby show, which Avas judged by Dr. Geo. Walker, resulted; — Under six months. —Boy: Mrs Rnd(iell’s baby J, Mrs Organ’s baby 2. Girl: Mrs C. .Tones’ baby 1, Mrs C. IV. Anderson’s baby 2. Under 12 months. —Boy: Mrs Higjgott’s baby .1, Mrs Fugc’s baby 2. 'Girl: Mrs R. Hudson’s baby 1, Mrs ; o’Rhea’s baby 2. Under two years. —Boy: Mrs Barber’s baby 1, Mrs C. Foster’s baby -• (Erl: Mrs Wilson’s baby 1, Mrs Gardner’s baby 2. Twins: Mrs Pattison’s babies 1. The decorated dolls’ prams and gocarts were all so attractive and tasteful that the judges were unable to differentiate, and Hie prize Avas divided betAveen Bernle Armstrong, Mollie O’Shea, Peggy Gunn, Leslie Gunn and Hazel Mellvride. For Hie decorated trolley, Des Whitelnw Avon first prize and Harry j Davis was giA'cn a special aAvard. A high standard of entertainment was again provided at night. The { Whangaroi Municipal Silver Band played selections prior to eight o’clock and then community singing, interspersed with concert Items, was the order of the evening until Ik.Ml. 'The programme Avas arranged by Mr Ken Ward, who also acted as accompanist and led Hie singing. The supporting artists were:—Miss B. FTeebe and Messrs A. Walker and O. P. Owen (vocal items), Mr Ken Ward (songs at the banjo), Misses Warrington (fancy dancing), Mr Albert Curtis (humorous recitation) and Mr Dalziel (Xylophone numbers). This evening a moek trial Avill be presented by the Whangarei Debating Society. Last season this Avas one of the most popular and laughable features arranged by the society, and as the “cast” has been carefully chosen those who form Hie “court” this evening should be treated to royal entertainment.
